Congratulations to the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Lego League (FLL) Robotics teams, Team Flash and Area 53 of Camden County Middle School in Kingsland, Georgia, who competed at the robotics competition in Waycross, Georgia on December 8, 2018!

FIRST is the world’s largest after-school student-serving organization that inspires students of all ages to gain a greater appreciation for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and to pursue STEM career opportunities. Guided by adult coaches, FLL teams research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, and program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology, then compete on a table-top playing field.

This year’s competition in Waycross, GA hosted 11 teams including Team Flash and Area 53, who were both mentored by the Navy’s Strategic Weapons Facility, Atlantic, competed and walked away with four of the five trophies! Team Area 53 is a veteran FLL team, while Team Flash is a rookie FLL team both sponsored by the Department of Defense (DoD). The teams won the following awards:

Team Flash
1st Place Overall
1st Place Robot Design

Area 53
1st Place Core Values
1st Place Robot Games

Both teams will go on to Super Regionals held in Warner Robins, Georgia January 2019. The DoD wishes both teams the best of luck!
